VIGIL FOR BASIL FULEIHAN

H.E. Dr. Basil Fuleihan

R.I.P

"Dear Nabil, Thank you for your kindness today and the speed with which you put up the announcement. I look forward to meeting you and to making a new friend." Stacia Hachem, NY, NY

The Lebanese Community News Journal at www.lcnj.com took pride in assisting our fellow Lebanese Stacia Hachem in promoting and supporting this good Lebanese cause whereby she planned a Vigil followed by a Lebanese get together. Basil Fuleihan is fighting for his life in a Paris hospital after miraculously surviving the sensless Feb. 14, 2005 bombing in Beirut that took the life of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. Basil was riding in the same car, and received burns to more than 90% of his body.

The worldwide outpouring of concern for Basil has been enormous. It is a testament to the kind of decent, friendly and thoughtful person he is, and to the intelligent leadership he offered his country in the name of peace and unity. He has many friends in New York, where he received a PhD in economics from Columbia.

Basil's condition at the Percy Hospital is critical and serious, and he remains on artificial life support.

About Dr. Basil Fuleihan:
Dr. Basil Fuleihan  was born in 1963 in Lebanon. He attended the American University of Beirut where he majored in Economics. He graduated with distinction in 1984 and was the recipient of the prestigious Penrose Award. Dr. Fuleihan earned a Masters degree in International and Development Economics from Yale University, followed by a PhD in Economics from Columbia University in New York.  Dr. Fuleihan was elected to the Lebanese Parliament in October 2000, and became the economic advisor to the Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. He served as Minister of Economy and Trade between 2000 and 2003
