An informal Lebanese get together

On March 17, 2007, 15-20 good Lebanese of all ages got together at Joseph Hakim's home and we all had a good time socializing, enjoying each other's company and feasted on the delicious Lebanese food from Kibbeh Nayyeh, to tabbouleh, to hommmos, to the fatayer, etc..  and a never ending supply of Lebanese delicacies...

We all had great social bonding, intelligent conversation, exchange of great ideas and a few drinks.  Man, that Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Gold Label were something else considering that I am an infrequent drinker.

What mattered most is the heartwarming and down to earth attitude of such Lebanese men and women of great substance...

So, for someone like me who always enjoys so many informal Lebanese gatherings and cannot report on each one of them, what was so special about this get together?...

What was special about this gathering is the meeting of the minds between WLCU and LCNJ and the commitment by both to nurture a true sense of Lebanese Community and, like we have it in Lebanon, encourage 50-60 Lebanese to get together every day to be together and talk...

While the "every day" may be possible in Lebanon, a target of 2-3 gatherings a week, in the short run, is more realistic in the U.S.

The Pleasant Request

A flashback to March 13, 2007, when I received a heartwarming e-mail from my friend Joseph Hakim, the esteemed President of the WLCU in the United States. See WLCU's e-mail here.

We talked openly of the common visions that WLCU and LCNJ have for the Lebanese Communities throughout the U.S. and decided to meet on a regular basis a couple of times a week to demonstrate to the world, by action, our commitment to do what we truly believe in and be the nucleus from which every Lebanese Community in the entire U.S. and worldwide can copy.

Joseph's ambition is to lease or buy a Club within every Lebanese community where the Lebanese of all ages can get together on a daily basis to nurture a true sense of community where everyone is treated as family, regardless of DNA, so that the Lebanese and their parents and children can connect regularly to empower one another.  This vision, while in its infancy, is a much awaited dream shared by almost every Lebanese I have spoken to in the last 3 years since the establishment of LCNJ.
