Publishers' Note:  Easter is almost here!... Preparations for celebrations and decorations have been underway for quite a while now....  The Easter Bunny, the presents and the commercialization of what is one of the most sacred occasions of our Christian faith are all here...

This is all good... as long as it is "sincerely" accompanied by what truly matters in life... and that is to remember and live by the death and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!...

Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sins... When you ask the Lord to "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespassed against us", you ought to mean every word of it.  Otherwise don't call yourself a Christian...

Being a Christian means loving and including others regardless of their faiths... not isolating Christians in questionable networks... Being a Christian even means loving your enemy and praying for them...

This Easter, we should, as Christians, call for harmony, education and co-existence amongst all religions and nationalities remembering that we all share the same biology... regardless of ideology...

The Nile Restaurant does it again!...

Nile Restaurant Club, North Bergen, NJ, مطعم ونادي النيل

Rabih Al Asmar, Rabee3, ربيع الأسمر

On Saturday March 2, 2008, and while most other Arabic nightclubs in NY and NJ are barely seeing few patrons all week, the Nile Restaurant and Nightclub was bustling with two spectacular events on the same night.

Rabih Al Asmar, Rabee3, ربيع الأسمر

Downstairs, the Nile had their weekly Saturday hafleh with 4 singers, a belly dance performance, great food, shisha, lots of energy and celebrants on the dance floor.  Upstairs, they welcomed the Lebanese Superstar Rabih El Asmar, that amazing tenor with the great looks, showmanship and that mesmerizing voice that competently jumps 2-3 octaves in a split second .

Twenty-Five years after…
Life Reflections – August 1, 2006

I wrote my first love song… to you…

I savored my first sensations of love.. through you…

I learnt what true love meant… by listening to you…

I unraveled our “forbidden games”… by exploring you…

And now I wonder…”Where have all the years gone?”

In you last card to me, twenty five years ago, you wrote “from the woman who loves you most”… Tonight, more than ever, I know that you are still the woman who loves me most… twenty five years later!..

The poets were right!… First love always holds that special place in our hearts. … and you… you were my First Love!...

نقل فؤادك حيث شئت من الهوى ما الحب إلا للحبيب الأول

It only seems like yesterday that I made love to you before we said goodbye… twenty-five years ago…

Tonight, twenty-five years later, the door bell rang… and I opened the door… my heart was beating fast… and you… you took my breath away!…

You took my breath away with the most beautiful blue eyes God has ever made!…

You took my breath away with that breathtaking smile that brightens a universe… and… that graceful slender body that Time has refused change… not a bit… in twenty five years…

The beautiful 19 year old girl that I fell in love with then… was still a beautiful 19 year old woman tonight… twenty-five years later

For a moment I looked into your eyes in total disbelief… and, all of a sudden, memories of twenty-five years came rushing in… all in just one second…

We sighed… and we smiled… we had so much to say… yet not a word was spoken!…

We found ourselves in a state of complete and utter love… once again… twenty-five years later… as we have never been a moment apart…

I quietly brought your body close to mine… I placed my hands on your perfect waist… and I tenderly held you close to me for a minute… or was it a minute?… or an eternity of bliss?…

You
peacefully placed your head on my chest… and you felt so safe, content, loved, desired and… at home with me … in my arms…

You lifted your head and gently brought your lips to mine… and my lips savored your lips like I have never felt before… in what was our very first kiss ever... for the first time… once again… twenty five years later…

We talked for hours… we laughed and cried…we hugged a million times… your cell phone rang… and even though the ailing Contract of Society tells us we shouldn’t, we did!… and it felt like the first time… once again… twenty five years later…

If loving you is a sin… then let me be a sinner!…

For a moment… Time stood still… as I reflected upon what we shared tonight… twenty five years later…

The world may disagree… but you and I know that you will always belong to me…

How could I have been so wrong? How did I ever let you go? How did I allow Time steal the most precious years of our life?

Gibran had his May Ziadé … and I have you!… my First love.. my True love!...

Gibran spoke of broken wings… and I stand here... savoring every breath with you... just like the miller, I am telling my tale of time lost… in a whiter shade of pale… a quarter of a century after…

I don’t really know what the next chapter in the Book of Life has in store for us… but one thing I know… that I will ever be thankful for the memory of… tonight…

Society Notes
The Innocent Victims of the Patriot Act

I will start by saying, with a clear conscious, that, by and large, the Patriot Act has been instrumental in protecting our Homeland from so many terrorist attacks and plots that have been uncovered.  This is an excellent Act that was rightfully introduced in America's hour of need...

However, like many "Government" run programs, the Patriot Act was subject to two evils: Bureaucracy and Abuse.

In a country like ours where illegal immigrants are flocking in by the millions, the Patriot Act was shamelessly abused to "selectively" enforce our immigration policy by discriminating against, demeaning and demonizing Arabs and Moslems living peacefully in our country.  That is shameful!...

As for bureaucracy, the Patriot Act failed to give our judges their inherent responsibility to "judge" on a case by case basis... tangling them in a web of "bureaucracy" our judicial system has never known before.

Let me explain.  Imad, a gentle, peace loving and "employed" Tunisian Moslem who lives in the U.S. with his wife and young children forgot to declare his move with his family from one state to another in his Green Card application.  To make a long story short, because he was Arab and Moslem, the judge, who otherwise would have sent him home, had no choice but to detain him for 4 long months until his background investigation proved him "innocent"!...

Is this the America we want?  Guilty until proven innocent?  NO!...

In those 4 months, his wife and children had to suffer enormously just to pay the rent and stay in their apartment!...

In another case, and after hearing, time and again, that other Arabs and Moslems who lived illegally in the U.S. have been deported after registering as required by the Patriot Act, Badr, another good, peace loving and employed Tunisian Moslem who has a wife and young children was understandably afraid to register as an illegal immigrant.  When he had the chance to apply to straighten his immigration status, and because he was Arab and Moslem, he was sent to jail for detention where he still is to this day, 4 months later waiting for his background investigation to be completed and be proven "innocent".

While I welcome legal immigration, something America needs and has many benefits to American Society, I do not endorse illegal immigration.  However, the reality is that people come to our country out of desperation and need!... Statistics show that we have millions of illegal immigrants.  Discriminating, and targeting peaceful Arabs and Moslems by "selectively" enforcing our failing immigration policy is just that... shameful discrimination!...

Social Scene
Elvis at Manny's Cocktail Lounge
in Moonachie, NJ (North NJ)

Our Lebanese friends, Tayseer and Maurice put on a great show at their lounge on Saturday March 2, 2008. Well, they didn't perform (Thank God!)... Elvis did!...

From the 50's, 60's and the 70's, Elvis, and his amazing band, brought nostalgic tunes and memories to a lounge filled with Elvis' fans... including wonderful friends from our Arab Community in NJ and NY, like none other than, Tayseer, Maurice, Fayez, Nabil, Abdo and many more...

Elvis, now 71, was accompanied by a look-alike with the hair and everything... a look-alike who acted as his sound engineer... I really believe that, at 71, this look-alike also acts as his body double... In case something happens to Elvis, all the sound engineer needs to do is wear the monkey suit and start singing... No one will notice the difference...

We all know how women flocked to Elvis at his concerts wanting to kiss him!... Well our Elvis did just that with a twist.   Let me explain!...

This Elvis was also accompanied by a "Little Elvis" sidekick who was about 10 years old... whose main function was to place a colored silk-like scarf around Elvis' neck... and then go around dragging ladies to the stage where Elvis would take the scarf off his neck, place on their necks and give them a friendly kiss on the cheek...

I was so out of it, I guess, that I somewhat thought that Little Elvis actually went back to take the scarf from one lady so that Elvis can give it to the next lady... until I realized that the scarves given away were of different colors...

During the Elvis Show, a Cuban girl came and sat next to me.  She told me her name was Goliath or something -- I cannot figure out the spelling... She actually was a slender pretty girl with reddish blond hair... It was close to 11:30 pm then and I had to split to go to the Rabih Al Asmar Hafleh.  So, I apologized and went on my way from on fun Sahra with Elvis to another with Rabih Al Asmar, Tony Mercho and Suzan.

The great news at Manny's is that our friend Maurice will soon be bringing "Mediterranean Night Arabic Entertainment".  Stay tuned for the announcement, and make sure you visit Maurice and enjoy the upcoming Arabic Entertainment!...
