Publishers' Note:
What I like most about
LCNJ is the openness
that it is able to bring to Millions of the Lebanese and Arabs everywhere and
the genuine desire and courage it instills in them to "think out of the box" and express their
opinions freely without hesitation. In drafting my Publisher's note, I remembered an
e-mail that I received from a fellow Lebanese with a "food for thought" for
all of us. So, I decided to just copy and paste it:
"Dear Mr. Nabil:
I thank you for your site and the messages you spread all over the world. You
vision makes a lot of sense and your love for Lebanon is self-evident. You have
coined the term “Lebanese way of life” just like Gibran has coined the phrase
“You have your Lebanon and I have mine”
My name is Hussein Moussawi from Baalbeck. Your call for Lebanese Moslems to
rise up and support the preservation of Christians in Lebanon as to preserve
the Lebanese way of life has touched me in many ways.
Since before the civil war, I have always wanted a fair participation for the
Shiaa community in Lebanon when they virtually had none. So, when I saw the
rise of Hizballah in the eighties, I could not be more proud of all the
educational, health and welfare programs they have brought to our community and
the power and dignity they gave to the Shiaa community as we gained more
participation in our Lebanese government.
However, all this came at an expensive price. With money pouring in from
outside and the influence of external powers, I saw the face of my Lebanon change. I saw our Lebanese way of life,
the only thing that unites us as Lebanese and the envy of Arabs and Moslems
everywhere, being replaced by an Islamic-infused way of life within my
community. Lebanese Shiaa women who always have been just “Lebanese” women are
now pushed to dress up in “Islamic-wear” covering their heads and chins “a la Iranian”.
Lebanese Shiaa men who always have been just simple "Lebanese" men, are now becoming
more radical than the most radical Islamists anywhere. The stability, dignity
and harmony we all want for our Lebanon and our families are now virtually non-existent.
What happened to my Lebanon?
As a Lebanese Moslem, and most importantly as a “Lebanese”, I want to do what I
can to preserve Christianity in Lebanon so as to maintain that balance that has
shaped the Lebanese way of life.
Without preserving our Lebanese
way of life, there is no Lebanon"

A Return to Love & Spirituality
Christmas Midnight Mass

Dressed up in its breathtaking Holiday
outfit this year, Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn, witnessed another
Christmas mass filled with "gratitude and hope" as my friend "gregory" summed
up how we, as Christians, should feel and lead our lives. In his usual
levity, he poked fun at the "funny hats" Bishops are made to wear, in reference
to his mitre of which I am personally fond because it has a golden Lebanese
Arzeh.
Following the mass, at the early
breakfast, it was heartwarming to see the new Cathedral Pastor, my friend the
Most Reverend Jim Root rush to give me a warm hug and a kiss with the most
heartfelt words about
LCNJ.
The low key Vicar General Monsignor
Michael Thomas and my friend Abouna Jean Younes just added to what is already a
Christmas Eve amongst family and friends, in the name of our Lord Jesus.
