Recent Events in Lebanon

On January 23,  Beirut witnessed one of the darkest episodes of sectarian violence in its recent history.  Massive demonstrations paralyzed Lebanon  leaving 3 people dead, and more than 100 injured. The Lebanese army imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

On January 25, the general strike was called off.  More than $7.6 billion in grants and loans were pledged at the Paris 3 conference to help Lebanon.

On January 26, roadblocks,  snipers, shootings, sectarian attacks and violence killed 7 and wounded close to 400 people...  reviving flashbacks of civil war memories.

On February 13, bomb explosions in two minibuses killed 3 people and injured 20 in Ain Alaq, south of Bickfaya.

On February 14, a mass rally is planned in downtown Beirut  to mark the second anniversary of the assassination of Rafic Hariri

Words of Wisdom

"Very simple!... The Lebanese will start earning respect in the world when they start respecting  themselves and each other... in everything they say or do!... Enough Bahdaleh!..."

Lebanese Family Night Pictures

The Committee of the Maronite Youth Organization (MYO) achieved in one evening what the rest of us Lebanese have failed to achieve in over 2 years.

While most Lebanese parties always force parents to leave children behind with baby sitters, this outstanding group of young dedicated Lebanese, invited the parents to have fun, enjoy relaxed Lebanese social bonding and play card & board Games with snacks... while organizing heartwarming separate fun events for the children who had a memorable time together as kids.   A big round of applause goes to the "awesome" MYO Committee members George Saliba (President), Dora Srour (VP), and Michelle Tayar (Secretary).

Lebanese Social Scene

I receive, all year round, numerous calls from delightful Lebanese from the four corners of the world...  but something is worth mentioning here...

Just over the past two months, I received calls from Michelle, a delightful 25 year old young Lebanese female in NYC, whose family is in Florida and who knows no Lebanese here other than me.  She volunteered to help organize a Lebanese Get together.

I received calls from Rosine, another delightful Lebanese female who speaks more French than Lebanese, and looking for work.  I connected her with one of my friends, a  publisher of a Lebanese newspaper.  Rosine, fighting tears, tells me how much she misses our social life in Lebanon and wishes she can find it here.

I also received calls from Joumana, yet another friendly Lebanese female who simply does not see any other Lebanese because of her circumstances but is dying to be with other Lebanese.

On Saturday evening, 1/27, at around 7:30 pm, I received yet another friendly call from my friend Vivianne, a pretty Lebanese female who said that she is climbing up the walls as she has nothing to do and that she has not gone out in 4 months.  She asked me what I was doing and I told her that I had prior commitments with my little daughter.

My friend Nathalie recently whispered in my ear that she fondly remembers the time when we all got together and I played the guitar and sang Lebanese and French songs (of course, Nathalie by Gilbert Bécaud always included by special request)...

My Friend Elie and Roula as well as my friend Docteur Adib keep telling that we must revive the Lebanese get togethers.

What on earth is going on? Every Lebanese wants to be with everyone else and no one does anything proactive to be with everyone else.

As I said, I was very successful organizing them in the past but the majority of the burden fell on me and few others.... So, I will restart the Lebanese get togethers when I get 30 Lebanese people to e-mail me and commit to be proactive in organizing the get togethers, motivating others and come to every party we agree to and I I announce on www.lcnj.com

Newspaper Faux Pas

It was brought to our attention that the good Monsieur Antoine, in his newspaper, had a lighthearted "typo".   We actually were able to verify the authenticity of such a bizarre allegation. However, our opinion is one that Monsieur Antoine should have known better than to get caught in such a social blunder.  Not so nice, Monsieur Antoine!...

Still... La vie continue.... In the grand scheme of things, this is no big deal...
