Elected MP's in 2009
|
Lebanon - June 7, 2009: After weeks of fierce campaigning and a 54.8 percent turnout, the Parliamentary Elections in Lebanon that took place on Sunday 7 June 2009, were widely viewed as a Victory for the 14th of March alliance who maintained their majority in the Lebanese Parliament, fending off what was expected to be a serious challenge by Hizballah and its allies in the 8th of March movement to grab the parliamentary majority. Jumblatt and Hariri reached out to their March 8 opponents and urged supporters to refrain from antagonistic celebrations. Hariri thanked the Lebanese people "those that supported us and those that voted against us". Jumblatt asked his supporters not to " let this victory go to waste". Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah, conceded the defeat of the March 8 alliance and renewed his call for partnership despite elections outcome The reality is that the status quo was maintained... With a projected 71-57 split, neither side has a mandate, and Hizballah will most likely maintain veto power in the next cabinet. This will lead to a national unity coalition government forcing Lebanese politicians to work together and cooperate in governing Lebanon's affairs. Our hope is that they will ALL place Lebanon's best interest above their personal agendas and self interest. "The Lebanese can hold their head up," said H.E. Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, adding that the Lebanese authorities and people "were up to the challenge of holding elections on one day."... and "Today's elections resemble the Lebanese democratic spirit," |

You think this matter does NOT affect
you? Think Again!.. .
This affects EACH and EVERY proud Lebanese mother and father who have
Lebanese daughters.
How would you feel if your own Lebanese daughter falls in love with a
non-Lebanese husband (as so many do), and YOUR own Lebanese grandchildren,
your own Lebanese flesh and blood, were DENIED their BIRTH RIGHT to
Lebanese citizenship and were treated as non-Lebanese "foreigners" in
their very own country, Lebanon... your own country? Tell me!...
Luckily, H.E. Ziad Baroud and MANY good Lebanese are doing something about
it... You can too!... What will YOU do?
